Get to Know the FIELD Trip Lab
In our lab, FIELD stands for Fostering Inquiry and Equity in Learning Design.
We partner with formal and informal learning spaces to design and scaffold learning environments for families and school groups. The lab director, Dr. Catherine Dornfeld Tissenbaum, is especially interested in supporting adults who teach children in any setting (e.g., teachers, parents, caregivers).
We research:
- Families' use of museum-developed online activities for learning about science at home
- Inquiry-based apps that support families' engagement with science in nature
- Participatory exhibits that share the narratives of Latina/x youth in Champaign-Urbana museums
- Curriculum and program designs that leverage the affordances of classrooms, community spaces, and museums
